can forgive but cant forget

once, another person did something very horrible to me..
i was finally able to forgive them...,
but i am unwilling to be around them again,...
because I don't want the same thing to happen...
so, i am sorry they are unhappy, but i have to stay away from them...
that doesnt mean i dont forgive them....
i do and i hope they will change..
n maybe the other issue here is can i forgive myself for allowing that person to hurt me?
